Sampling Methods

Specimens records were based mainly on the adult stage. Adults were collected with beating sheets, sweep nets, and use of light traps on warm summer evenings. In addition, some adults were reared to adults from the aquatic larval stage.

Study Extent Five species were studied across the middle portion of the Mississippi River Basin.

Method step description:

  1. Data were accumulated from a combination of museums, institutions, personal collections, and valid literature. Locality data for all specimen records, in decimal degrees, were obtained either directly on site with GPS units or georeferenced from museum label data using Acme Mapper 2.1 (http://mapper.acme.com).
