Description

This dataset contains occurrence records of wild bees belonging to the genus Andrena (Hymenoptera: Andrenidae) collected from the Mediterranean region of Türkiye. The dataset provides detailed collection data, including geographical coordinates, elevation, dates, and recorded floral associations (flower visitation records). It serves as the foundational data for the faunistic, ecological, and taxonomic evaluations presented in the associated manuscript.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 155 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Title Contributions to the Andrena (Hymenoptera: Andrenidae) Fauna of the Mediterranean Region of Türkiye

Sampling Methods

Field studies were conducted during the spring and summer seasons of 2008 and 2009. Due to the extensive survey area, an opportunistic sampling protocol was employed to maximize the number of collected specimens. All adult bees were actively captured using hand nets and aspirators. Additionally, the specific floral resources visited by the bees during capture were either explicitly recorded in the field or collected for subsequent botanical identification.

Study Extent The study was conducted within the Mediterranean Region of southern Türkiye, covering a survey area of more than 100,000 km² (bounded approximately by 27–37°E longitude and 35.5–38.5°N latitude). The geographic extent encompasses twelve provinces representing the core distribution of the Mediterranean basin in the country. Eight provinces are entirely located within the region (Adana, Antalya, Burdur, Hatay, Isparta, Mersin, Muğla, and Osmaniye), while four are partly situated within it (Denizli, Karaman, Kahramanmaraş, and Niğde).

Method step description:

  1. 1- Opportunistic field collection of adult bee specimens using hand nets and aspirators during the spring and summer seasons of 2008 and 2009. 2- In-situ recording or physical collection of the associated floral host plants visited by the bees. 3- Laboratory examination and morphological documentation of the bee specimens using a Zeiss Discovery V8 stereoscopic microscope. 4- Taxonomic identification of the bee specimens to the species level by an entomological expert, and identification of the collected plant specimens by a botanical expert. 5- Categorization of all records into literature-based and collection-based data sources to identify new regional occurrences. 6- Digitization and spatial visualization of the specimen occurrence data into a standardized format for geographic representation.
