Description

This dataset contains georeferenced occurrence records of freshwater Malacostraca across continental Chile. Records were compiled from published literature, technical reports and field studies, taxonomically standardised, and georeferenced using WGS84 coordinates. The dataset includes occurrence information, taxonomic classification, locality data and bibliographic references for freshwater crustaceans distributed across Chilean inland waters.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 625 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

This project compiles georeferenced occurrence records of freshwater Malacostraca from Chilean inland waters, including published literature, field observations and biodiversity databases.

Title Freshwater Malacostraca occurrences across Chile
Funding Universidad Católica de Temuco (Projects VIPUCT-2020REG-PR-06, VIPUCT-2022REG-PR-03 and MECESUP UCT 0804), ANID-Chile, projects ANID ATE220060, FONDECYT regular 1231551 and 1240447.
Study Area Description The study area includes continental Chile, covering rivers, lakes, ponds and inland wetlands distributed approximately between 18°S and 56°S.
Design Description Occurrence records were compiled, taxonomically standardised and georeferenced following Darwin Core standards for biodiversity data publication.

The personnel involved in the project:

Patricio R. De los Ríos-Escalante

Sampling Methods

Occurrence records were compiled from published scientific literature, technical reports, biodiversity databases and field observations. Taxonomic nomenclature was standardised and geographic coordinates were validated and converted to decimal degrees following Darwin Core standards.

Study Extent Continental Chile, including freshwater environments such as rivers, lakes, ponds and inland wetlands distributed approximately between 18°S and 56°S.
Quality Control Taxonomic names were revised using specialised literature and available taxonomic databases. Geographic coordinates were checked for consistency and invalid or duplicated records were excluded from the final dataset.

Method step description:

  1. Data compilation, taxonomic standardisation, georeferencing and metadata preparation were performed to generate a Darwin Core-compliant occurrence dataset suitable for publication through GBIF/IPT infrastructure.
