Description

86 occurrence data for Myotis species in Malaysia, inferred from museum collections and active trapping. This data will help in better understanding on the distribution of these species.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 172 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

At each site, 20 mist nets and four harp traps were deployed and checked from 1800h to 0600h. Trap placement varied across habitats, including dipterocarp forest, rock crevices, streams, ponds, and trails.

Study Extent This study used two sample sources: museum collections and field sampling. Museum samples (n=86) were obtained from the Zoological Museum of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (MZU) at 38 localities across Malaysia, and field sampling was conducted at six sites across Sarawak.

Method step description:

  1. Species identification was based on external morphological characteristics observed in the field using the identification keys and species descriptions in Phillipps (2016) and representative specimens were genetically verified to confirm species identity prior to analysis in this study.
