Description
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 4 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data
This project investigated the taxonomic identity and geographic distribution of two sponge-associated caridean shrimps, Synalpheus pandionis and Periclimenaeus perlatus, based on specimens collected on the continental shelf at the entrance of Baía de Todos os Santos, Bahia, Brazil. Morphological examination, voucher deposition, and molecular evidence were combined to confirm species identifications and document their South Atlantic range extensions.

| Study Area Description | The study was conducted at two nearby marine localities on the inner continental shelf at the entrance of Baía de Todos os Santos, off the Salvador–Itaparica Channel, between the city of Salvador and Itaparica Island, Bahia, northeastern Brazil. Both localities were situated at a depth of 22 m. |
The personnel involved in the project:
Sampling Methods
Specimens were collected by scuba diving from their sponge hosts. Synalpheus pandionis was collected from Mycale (Zygomycale) angulosa (Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864), whereas Periclimenaeus perlatus was collected from Aplysina fistularis (Pallas, 1766). The shrimp specimens were removed from the sponge material, examined, sexed, measured using carapace length, identified using an integrative taxonomic approach, and deposited as vouchers in the crustacean collection of CRUST-IEO (CSIC).
| Study Extent | Sampling was conducted on 9 January 2024 at two nearby marine localities on the inner continental shelf at the entrance of Baía de Todos os Santos, off the Salvador–Itaparica Channel, between the city of Salvador and Itaparica Island, Bahia, northeastern Brazil. Both localities were situated at a depth of 22 m. |

Method step description:
- Specimens were identified, sexed, and measured using carapace length. Molecular data were obtained from representative specimens and deposited in GenBank, and all examined specimens were deposited as vouchers in the crustacean collection of CRUST-IEO (CSIC).

| Introduction | Specimens were collected by scuba diving from sponge hosts. Synalpheus pandionis was collected from Mycale (Zygomycale) angulosa, whereas Periclimenaeus perlatus was collected from Aplysina fistularis. The specimens were subsequently examined, measured, sexed, identified, and deposited as vouchers in the crustacean collection of CRUST-IEO (CSIC). |
| Purpose | The purpose of this dataset is to make the voucher-based occurrence records underlying the associated taxonomic publication openly accessible through the GBIF network. |
| Maintenance Description | This is a static dataset associated with a scientific publication. No regular updates are planned, although corrections may be issued if errors or relevant taxonomic updates are identified. |
